12 Myths about Making a Name Change to a Balanced Name

We receive many questions through our website and forums from visitors on making a name change to a balanced name.

Below are the top 12 myths with an explanation of each one. We hope you find it interesting. We encourage you to consider the various perspectives of the Kabalarian Philosophy. With a practical understanding of these basic mathematical laws governing mind and potential, one can create progress in fulfilling your potential and purpose each day. Happy investigating!

Myth 1: With a balanced name, I will lose the positive qualities of my existing names.

A balanced name creates mental strengths without removing any of your current positive abilities. In fact, a balanced name will enhance your already established strengths. A balanced name adds positive qualities in harmony with your purpose in life, which is measured from your date of birth. Like grafting a beautiful rose stem on to a robust rootstock to produce a better rose, the new name brings greater harmony and poise to your life. The mental qualities that diminish are the weaknesses that are inherent in your current names. If your names create lack of confidence, you will grow past this weakness as you become more confident by using your balanced name. If your name creates discontent, you will lose this weakness and become happier. If your name creates an over-emotional nature, you will move past this weakness as you gain greater stability and self-discipline. You become happier, healthier, and more successful. Through the use of a balanced name you can replace weaknesses with strengths. A balanced name is the requirement for the expression of your purpose in life, determined from your date of birth.

Myth #2: I will lose my memories and forget who I was.

Memories are not affected by your name choice. A change of name does not erase the past! You lived the past; it is a part of you. We tend to remember some memories and forget others. Some people have painful and unhappy memories. A balanced name will help those people to view past memories with greater objectivity.

You will become a more constructive person with a balanced name. So many people tell us how impressed they were with the constructive changes that they experienced as they looked back over the first twelve months of using a balanced name and how they now perceive their lives—past, present, and future. They did not lose their memories. They improved their lives!

Myth #3: When I change my name to a balanced name, my wife changes hers, and we change our children's names, we will all have to have different last names.

Your entire family can share the same mathematically balanced surname. Every balanced first name will work in harmony with the balanced surnames we recommend.

If you want to balance your name and your spouse does not, you can use a different surname, a modified spelling of your current surname, or a hyphenated surname that incorporates your spouse’s current surname as well.

In any case, our Balanced Name specialists will work with you to help you choose a balanced name that suits your circumstances. Even if you cannot change your surname, we can try to recommend the most balanced first name to go with it. This secondary balanced recommendation is not the optimum; however, it is better than no change at all.

Myth #4: Only people who are in financial trouble change their names.

Although it is true people change their names for many different reasons, thousands of people change their names to balanced names for the sole purpose of bringing greater harmony, happiness, and health into their lives. Many of these people were already successful financially but success in other areas of their lives remained elusive. They recognized that their Name Report was accurate.

A balanced name can help to bring greater financial stability and success. The complete harmony that is the potential of a balanced name is not limited to material stability. The harmony in balanced names energizes physical health and well-being, and strengthens mental balance. These, in turn, create harmonious relationships, develop mental strengths, and unfold the inner potential into new constructive channels. A practical and objective perspective on how to develop our inner potential is possible as this new awareness brings a new level of happiness and fulfillment into our lives.

The Kabalarian Philosophy has been giving balanced name recommendations since the 1930s. Today, name change is accepted in our society and does not indicate an avoidance of any financial trouble. It represents a growing acceptance of the very real influence of the power of name in creating the conditions of one’s life.

Myth #5: It would be too difficult professionally for me to make a name change.

People from virtually every walk of life have balanced their names through the Kabalarian Philosophy—university professors, lawyers, certified accountants, engineers, architects, and many others—and have benefited from a balanced name. If stage actors and well-known writers can change their names, you can too! Don’t let the perceived difficulty stop you from bringing greater harmony and balance into your life through a balanced name.

It does take effort to make a name change, but the rewards are very real and tangible. If the key weaknesses in your thinking slowly diminished and disappeared, what would be the net result in your life? This is what you should focus on with a change to a balanced name.

At first, you might be concerned or even afraid of the reactions of others to your name change. However, if you acknowledge that your current names are holding you back, you will seize the opportunity and face the challenge and make the change. For most people, your name change will not be a major concern. Some will be intrigued, others will be ambivalent. Some family members will scoff; others will accept. But in the bigger picture, only you get to live your life. Only you face the challenges and opportunities of your life. If you live your life with a balanced name, you will have the power of the balanced name assisting you to bring greater happiness and many more opportunities to create a successful life.

Myth #6: I identify with my name and the transition would be too difficult.

We recognize that not everyone is prepared to make a name change. Many names create specific limitations that hold people back from considering anything new, forcing them into mental rut. A balanced name would help these people overcome the limitations of their current thinking.

As soon as you take a balanced name, in a very short time you will identify with it. It may take three to six weeks, but soon you will recognize new qualities in your thinking. You will forge a "better" you by using a balanced name consistently.

A balanced name will enhance your thinking giving greater individuality, better understanding of others, and better self-expression. Also it will provide patience and versatility, mental stability and reliability, and greater depth of mind, greater objectivity, and --most of all-- a greater love of life. A balanced name adds new dimensions to your life by improving the greatest power of your life: your mind.

Myth #7: I am too old for a name change

No one is too old for progress! We have people in their eighties and older participating in our philosophical study programs. Most people with balanced names look much younger than they actually are--their bodies are healthier, their minds are constructive and happier, and their attitudes are progressive. If you have attracted this opportunity to take a balanced name, you owe it to yourself to take this important step forward. You will never regret it. It can bring peace, happiness, and contentment to your thinking. Who is too old for that?

Myth #8: It would be a slap in my parents’ face to change my name.

Parents want the best for you. At first they may not realize that the balanced name is the best for you. However, it has been our experience that parents will appreciate the balanced name if you patiently persevere in consistently using your new name. One testimonial expressed the following, “When I changed my name, even though my parents accepted the change grudgingly at first, they became much more intrigued as they saw me change for the better over time.” Most people are emotionally tied to their names. This is evident in the many thoughts that one gets when considering a balanced name change. If we have to overcome these emotional concerns, imagine how many concerns those who care about us have but lack the evidence of a Name Report! Be patient. Assure them that a name change does not have to affect your relationship with them. If you can assure them that the balanced name will help you lead a happier and more fulfilled life, it is hard to imagine a parent that would not at least try to accept it.

No doubt there are some parents who will not see any point of view other than their own. At this point, you have to make a choice and do what is best for you.

Myth #9: It is legally complicated to change my name.

Generally, name change procedures have become a simple process in most English speaking countries (i.e., USA, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, etc.) of the world. In the United States and Canada check with your local state, county, or provincial government vital statistics / records department or online for the free forms to complete the process. The procedures and steps vary for other countries.

Yes, it does take a certain amount of time to complete the formalities of a legal name change. There are change-of-name documents to fill out and file with government agencies. You will have to change credit cards, bank accounts, and generally replace your old name on the many pieces of paper that you carry around linked to your name. Each name change process is really a re-affirmation of the value of a balanced name and a severing of the ties of the old name.

Myth #10: It is difficult to present a name change to business contacts, family, friends, and acquaintances.

If you want a progressive life, you have to make the progressive changes to make it happen. Changing your name with business associates, family, and friends is a step toward this goal. Each can be handled with patience, intelligence, and good humour.

Do not let anything sway you from your goal. You are charting a new course towards greater balance. Like a sailboat in cross-winds, there are steps you can take to ensure your safe passage. The first is to realize that you do not have to convince anyone of the benefit of your new name. You can simply tell them it was a personal choice. If they are curious, you could refer them to the Kabalarians.com website to understand it for themselves. Myth #11: “A name is a name” and you can make it work for you if you really want to.

If this were true, Name Reports would not be accurate. 85% of people recently surveyed state that their Name Reports were “Accurate” to “Extremely Accurate”. Our names and birth dates are the two keys to understanding the mental laws that are in play to create our mind, our lives, and our destiny. Any theory of mental balance that fails to recognize and implement the Mathematical Principle of name is incomplete.

Many religions have name change stories included in their religious writings and ceremonies. Although not taught now, the naming ceremony has always been very significant in most cultures and religions. Unfortunately the principle of a Balanced Name or the power of language is not taught. Wishing will not create balance, neither is will power enough if the name is not sufficiently balanced. Only with a balanced name and the proper application of the mental laws involved in creating balance and harmony in human consciousness can we create success and a full and complete life.

Myth #12: I need to know more to make this change.

We agree that more knowledge will create confidence in deciding to change your names so we encourage people to take our introductory course, Life Analysis Training, to develop a complete knowledge of this principle. Your Name Report is conclusive proof that your current names are restricting your potential. If you recognize that and decide to take a balanced name, any obstructions or roadblocks in your way can be surmounted. Everything begins with a decision.

Decide today to broaden your understanding of this important and vital principle. Decide today to choose balance and harmony over discord and limitation. Decide today to take a balanced name, and you will become happier, healthier, and a wiser person in your future. We wish you the very best and encourage you to make a balanced name change.
